Job Description


We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Controller to join our team on a part-time, benefits eligible basis (32 hours per week). This position plays a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, providing insightful analysis, and will provide strategic support for the CF&OO. We are particularly interested in candidates with prior experience in the education or non-profit sector, who appreciate the unique atmosphere of working in a close-knit supportive environment.

  • A self starter capable of working independently or leading a team.

Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations
  • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Lead the monthly closing process, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Prepare all journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements (Statement of Activity/Statement of Financial Position/Statement of Cash Flows), for review by CF&OO.
  • Monthly review of fixed asset additions, fixed asset depreciation, and reconciliation of school’s endowment(s) to the GL.

Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Prepare, lead, and ensure the successful execution of the annual financial audit, federal form 990 and Massachusetts PC.
  • File annual 1099s for contractors and vendors.
  • Partner with HR to complete and file annual 5500 forms and be key liaison for annual retirement plan audits.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard financial assets and ensure compliance with regulations.

Cash Management & Accounts Receivable
  • Monitor and coordinate the billing of all accounts receivable activity while maintaining timely collection of aging balances.
  • Experience using Square/CampBrain/Veracross is preferred but not required.

Accounts Payable & Staff Oversight
  • Responsible for the oversight, review, and approval of daily accounts payable activity and other responsibilities assigned to the Staff Accountant.
  • Experience using Teampay is preferred.

Budgeting & Analysis
  • Partner with the CF&OO in annual budget creation, review, and maintenance.
  • Analyze financial trends and risks, providing insights to management for informed decision-making.
  • Ad-hoc analysis as requested by members of the Leadership Team.

Other School Duties
  • Participate in other assigned duties related to the school's operation. Examples may include student facing tasks such as lunch duty, crosswalk duty and bus duty. 
  • Depending on qualifications and interest, potential opportunity to coach a sport at the school, fostering a well-rounded experience.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA Preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar accounting role, preferably within an education or non-profit organization.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and relevant accounting principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite (including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides), with expertise in Excel.
