Manager, Leave and Disability Programs

Must Have:

*Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required

*Minimum of 5 years of HR experience including leave administration

*Microsoft Office proficiency required

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
 
• Serves as the subject matter expert for leave, disability, and worker’s compensation programs under the general guidance of HR leadership;

• Oversees all aspects of employee leaves to ensure compliance with policies, federal and state regulations, and coordination with state mandated benefits;

• Oversees all aspects of the worker’s compensation program including efficiency of on-site Occupational health clinics (working with TPAs) to ensure compliance and best practice across all states in which operates or has employees.

• Oversees the ergonomic assessment program through collaboration with the worker’s compensation TPA and Occupational Medicine provider(s) to ensure a safe work environment for on-site and remote employees.

• Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with state and federal regulations for all leaves and the worker’s compensation program.

• Creates and/or streamlines processes and tools for leave, disability, and worker’s compensation programs;

• Collaborates with HRIS to ensure successful vendor interfaces are in place for accurate recording and reporting;

• Works closely with Benefits and Payroll staff to streamline and coordinate all benefits and supplemental wages for employees on a leave of absence, disability, or worker’s compensation.

• Drives the implementation, communication, and administration of leave, disability programs, and worker’s compensation programs

• Develops, generates and presents reports to analyze leave data, utilization and trends;

• Supervises all aspects of the employee customer service operations related to leave, disability, and worker’s compensation matters;

• Works closely with HR Business Partners, Occupational Health, and managers to provide support associated with absence management and return to work, including development of recommendation for modified works schedules and arrangements to help transition employees back to work;

• Exercises knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and works closely with Occupational Health and Environmental Health & Safety Services, HR Generalists to support an employee’s successful return to work;

• Liaises with HR Business Partners, managers, and other key stakeholders to improve processes and procedures and optimize financial costs of leaves;

• Works closely with Payroll to ensure employees are paid correctly while on leave;

• Ensures efficient support of the operational day-to-day HR transactions related to leaves;

• Manages relationship with third-party benefits consultants/administrators related to leave and disability programs and oversees performance;

• Based on utilization analysis and program reviews, makes recommendations on strategies to maintain cost effectiveness, and implements changes and/or enhancements;

• Provides training and guidance to managers and staff regarding all aspects of leave and disability programs to ensure compliance with policies and federal and state regulations;

• Supervises and coaches assigned staff with an objective to retain and expand organizational talent through focused attention and efforts; provides timely and constructive feedback and manages performance issues when necessary.

• Participates in Worker’s Comp, Leaves and Disability TPA RFPs as needed.

• May participate in special projects and completes other related duties as assigned.


 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Bachelor’s degree in related field with at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Benefit or Leave management, or comparable combination of education and experience;

• CPDM, CEBS and/or SPHR certification desirable;

• Workday experience preferred;

• In-depth and current knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g., FMLA, ADA, Workers Compensation, state leave programs, etc.);

• Experience in project management with significant emphasis on process design;

• Experience in selection and management of third-party-administrators;

• Strong focus and commitment to exceptional customer service;

• Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex information;

• Dedication to ongoing process improvement;

• Advanced ability in working with relational databases and Microsoft Office programs;

• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills;

• Strong analytical skills with ability to synthesize information from multiple sources and data sets.
