The Lead Environmental Compliance Coordinator (ECC) is responsible for overseeing environmental compliance activities across construction, maintenance, outage, and capital projects. This role provides leadership, technical expertise, and coordination to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permit requirements, and company policies while supporting safe and efficient project execution.
The Lead ECC serves as the primary liaison between project teams and environmental departments, ensuring environmental requirements are integrated into all phases of project planning and execution.
Key Responsibilities Environmental Compliance Leadership- Lead and manage environmental compliance programs across multiple projects and work sites.
- Monitor project activities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and company standards.
- Conduct environmental inspections and assessments and provide recommendations to project management teams.
- Maintain consistency and integrity in environmental reporting, documentation, and recordkeeping.
- Review materials, chemicals, and construction practices for environmental approval.
- Ensure contractors comply with environmental requirements and permit conditions.
- Coordinate environmental requirements during outages, maintenance activities, and major capital projects.
- Analyze environmental data and prepare reports for management regarding compliance performance and environmental metrics.
- Ensure processes, procedures, and systems are in place to maintain environmental compliance.
- Investigate environmental non-compliance events and coordinate required notifications.
- Identify root causes of environmental issues and develop corrective action plans.
- Track, document, and report environmental incidents, issues, and near misses.
- Coordinate hazardous waste management and disposal activities.
- Evaluate new environmental regulations and assist in developing compliance strategies.
- Provide environmental compliance guidance and support to project teams, contractors, and site personnel.
- Develop and deliver environmental compliance training programs.
- Ensure personnel receive required environmental training and maintain training records.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for environmental compliance matters.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to environmental coordinators and site staff.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, contractors, operations personnel, and environmental services groups.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for environmental compliance activities on assigned projects.
- Coordinate resolution of environmental compliance issues with internal and external stakeholders.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience managing environmental compliance programs in industrial, utility, power generation, construction, or similar environments.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and compliance programs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of management, contractors, and field personnel.
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in power generation, utilities, energy, or large industrial facilities.
- Project management and contractor coordination experience.
- Environmental certifications or specialized compliance training.
- This is a field-focused position requiring a physical presence in the field approximately 80% of the workday.
- Must be able to respond to environmental compliance issues in real time and work closely with contractors and project teams.
- Must maintain all required training, qualifications, and certifications necessary to perform assigned responsibilities.
