Job Title: Environmental Technician
Location: Charlotte, NC
Pay Range: $24-25/hr.
Work Hours: 7am to 5pm
Type of Employment: Direct Hire

The Planet Group is currently seeking an Environmental Technician for a growing company. Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma, and 2-4 years of environmental experience. Apply now for immediate consideration.

Position Summary:
The Environmental Technician supports the safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible handling of hazardous waste materials. This entry-level field role involves hands-on lab packing, onsite waste services, documentation, and compliance activities at customer locations.

This position is ideal for candidates with a science background who are comfortable with physical work and field-based assignments.



Environmental Technician Key Responsibilities
  • Inventory, identify, segregate, and package hazardous waste materials in accordance with Lab Pack procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Perform onsite services including waste collection, consolidation (bulking and repackaging), sampling, and safety/compliance inspections
  • Prepare packaged waste for shipment by inspecting, labeling, marking, and loading materials into transport vehicles
  • Accurately complete required documentation, including shipping papers, Land Disposal Restrictions (LDRs), evaluations, and certifications
  • Support other operational groups such as Depack, Retail, and Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) as needed
  • Follow and promote all Health & Safety and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures, including development of onsite safety plans
  • Operate company vehicles when required (CDL with Hazmat endorsement may be required)
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in General Science required (bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • CDL Class B or C with Hazardous Materials Endorsement (or ability to obtain)
  • Ability to perform physical labor in field and warehouse environments
  • Strong attention to detail and safety compliance
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites


Preferred Training & Certifications
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER (29 CFR 1910.120)
  • RCRA / DOT Refresher Training
  • Knowledge of Lab Pack definitions and procedures
  • Experience with manifest and LDR completion
  • Minimum 40 hours of Depack experience, preferred
