Director of Commercial Applications and Business Intelligence
Location: Richmond, VA, onsite 3 days a week
Reports To: Chief Information Officer (CIO)
Salary: $220k
Overview
The Director of Commercial Applications and Business Intelligence (BI) will lead the strategic direction, development, and optimization of technology solutions that empower Commercial functions across Sales, Marketing, Market Access, and Patient Services. This role will drive digital transformation initiatives and enable advanced data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership

Define and execute the IT roadmap for Commercial Applications, BI, and AI in alignment with corporate and business objectives.

Partner with Commercial, Data Science, and Analytics leaders to identify opportunities for innovation and operational efficiency.

Lead cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and compliant technology solutions.
Commercial Applications
-
Oversee the implementation, enhancement, and lifecycle management of Veeva CRM and other commercial platforms.

Ensure seamless integration of commercial systems with ERP, data lakes, and third-party data providers.

Drive system improvements to support field force effectiveness, omnichannel engagement, and actionable HCP/patient insights.
Business Intelligence & Data Analytics

Lead the BI and analytics strategy, including data architecture, visualization (Tableau, Power BI), and self-service analytics.

Develop KPIs and dashboards to monitor commercial performance, market trends, and customer engagement.

Oversee data governance, ensuring quality, consistency, and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, GDPR).
Artificial Intelligence & Advanced Analytics

Champion the adoption and scaling of AI/ML models to optimize targeting, forecasting, segmentation, and personalization.

Collaborate with data science teams to operationalize predictive and prescriptive analytics.

Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to accelerate AI maturity across the organization.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.

10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, including at least 5 years in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry.
- Proven experience managing commercial applications and BI platforms.
- Deep Veeva CRM experience
- Deep understanding of commercial pharma operations, data ecosystems, and regulatory frameworks.

Strong vendor management, project delivery, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), data lakes, and modern data stack tools.
Preferred Skills & Competencies

Familiarity with QVIA data, and AI/ML frameworks.

Strong background in change management and agile delivery.

Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
