Introduction
Our client, one of the oldest and most prominent architectural firms in the country, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support their commercial and industrial projects. Located in the historic Fisher Building in Detroit, this role offers the opportunity to work on unique projects such as battery plants, automotive facilities, healthcare centers, and corporate headquarters. As a hands-on engineer, you will design building mechanical systems (HVAC), mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams. Required Skills & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Minimum 8 years of experience designing building mechanical systems (HVAC)
• Proficient in Revit/BIM and AutoCAD
• Strong knowledge of mechanical system concepts, calculations, energy modeling, layout, sizing, selections, specifications, and coordination
• Experience conducting site visits and preparing engineering reports
• Knowledge of applicable codes and standards
• Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary project teams
• Client-facing with strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Willingness to travel up to 20% or less
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
• Experience designing mechanical systems for educational or healthcare facilities
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
• Proficiency with building energy modeling software and concepts
• Demonstrated interest and knowledge of energy-efficient design solutions
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
• Design building mechanical systems (HVAC) including system concepts, calculations, energy modeling, layout, sizing, selection, and specifications
• Conduct site visits for evaluation and inspection of mechanical systems
• Prepare and review engineering reports and project documentation
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers
• Monitor project progress, ensuring compliance with scope, schedule, and budget
• Attend client meetings and assist in marketing and business development efforts
• Collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients
• Review RFIs, submittals, and construction documents to resolve technical issues promptly
