Project Engineer
Location: Jackson, MI
Contract: 12 months
Schedule: 40 Hours
Pay: $35-40/hour, DOE

This position is functionally for a Project Engineer who works in a team setting providing support to project managers and leading engineering tasks/deliverables related to the planning, design, quality, testing, and execution of complex and strategic projects for the Electric Distribution business area.  The Project Engineer will be supporting a number of Economic Development projects and other major projects for Electric Distribution, including major substation rebuilds.

The Project Engineer ensures that technical project work scope is properly coordinated between internal and external engineers of record, vendors, fabricators, and contractors to meet project requirements. The Project Engineer will have multiple assignments (ranging from moderate to complex assignments) requiring application of standard techniques, theory, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.

Project Engineer Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program OR Engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills  
  • Excellent knowledge of design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD  
  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices and performance standards  
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail  
  • Proficient in MS Office, with aptitude for learning new software  
  • Experience coordinating internal and external engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of Project Management Information Systems such as Unifier and Document Control tools such as Project Wise is not a requirement but a plus.
  • Knowledge of Project Management principles and skills is a plus.
  • Background and experience in Electric Distribution projects is preferred, though not an absolute requirement
  • Understanding and experience in contract management
  • Experience in the management of engineering contracts and engineering deliverables
Project Engineer Responsibilities: 
  • Build strong partnerships with business partners and deeply understand their business goals
  • Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
  • Prepare, schedule, coordinate and monitor the assigned engineering projects. Assign responsibilities and mentor project team
  • Provide assistance and technical support to project managers and other project participants
  • Review engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions. Review the engineering tasks and initiate the necessary corrective actions
  • Support the Agile project delivery cadence by helping balance team performance with tight deadlines. Develop specifications for the project's needed equipment
