Job Title: Instrumentation & Controls Technician
Location: Morristown, IN
Pay Range:$45/hr - $55/hr
Per Diem: $178 per day 
Work Hours: 1st or 3rd shift availability (7am-3:30pm) (11pm-7:30am) 
Type of Employment - 9-month contract

The Planet Group is currently seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Technician for a growing company in the food manufacturing industry.  Qualified candidates must have 3+ years of experience as an I&C Technician, Controls Technician, or similar role in manufacturing (food or other regulated industry preferred).  

Summary:
The I&C Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing instrumentation, controls, and automation systems across a fast-paced food manufacturing facility. This role focuses heavily on Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley platforms, ensuring reliable operation of production equipment, utilities, and plant-wide process controls while maintaining compliance with food safety and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Instrumentation & Controls
  • Install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot plant instrumentation including flow meters, pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, load cells, pH meters, and level switches.
  • Perform loop checks, signal verification, and corrective actions to ensure instrument accuracy within food-industry tolerances.
  • Maintain and update I/O documentation, instrument indexes, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
Automation & Rockwell Systems
  • Troubleshoot and support Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley PLCs including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and MicroLogix platforms.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot FactoryTalk View SE/ME, PanelView HMIs, and related SCADA components.
  • Monitor PLC/HMI performance, implement programming changes, and assist with version control and backups (following MOC procedures).
  • Support VFDs, servo drives, and motor control systems primarily within the Rockwell ecosystem.
Production Equipment Support
  • Diagnose equipment downtime involving controls, sensors, and automation systems across processing, batching, packaging, and material handling equipment.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to reduce downtime and improve reliability.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and implement long-term controls-based corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement
  • Assist in automation upgrades, process optimization projects, and integration of new equipment.
  • Suggest improvements to enhance controls reliability, safety, and data visibility.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience as an I&C Technician, Controls Technician, or similar role in manufacturing (food or other regulated industry preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley PLCs, FactoryTalk View, PanelView HMIs, and VFDs.
  • Proficiency in instrumentation calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, P&IDs, ladder logic, and electrical diagrams.
  • Knowledge of GMPs, food safety standards, and safe work practices.
