Job Description

A Designer/Drafter responsible for physical design and layout of single phase
overhead and underground primary distribution lines, minor extensions of three phase overhead primary distribution lines, developing knowledge of underground subdivision layouts, single phase overhead and underground transformer installation and standard outdoor lighting design.

Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Require courses beyond high school including basic electricity, CAD drafting, engineering and survey practices, National Electric Safety Code, and distribution of overhead and underground power system.
  • Prefer two (2) years of post-high school education. Prefer course work in drafting, engineering or computer science.
  • Require Line Design & Staking Certification Program Level I.
  • Require two (2) years of experience in electric distribution work including progressive engineering work related to staking layout for construction, mapping and line construction specifications. 
Job Duties:
  • Provide staking expertise in the design of service drops, basic line construction materials and methods, security lighting, single phase primary line extensions, sizing of transformers and selection of basic protection devices and subdivision projects; and preparation of all related or necessary documents.
  • Work with member consumers and builders to answer questions and provide technical information.
  • Be familiar with standard utility materials and construction methods to provide expertise in the design and layout of electrical construction.
  • Generate work order package according to departmental procedures. Proficiently utilize all computer systems used in the work order process, including the work order program, customer information system, and automated staking system.
  • Coordinate job assignments with company personnel, other utilities and governmental bodies, including obtaining required permits, obtaining underground conductors locates, and work involving joint use agreements.
  • Obtain right-of-way easements and properly fill out all related documents as required.
  • Complete underground and overhead service estimates as required.
  • Communicate with members regarding provisions of the company Service Rules and Regulations, requirements for service, timetables of construction, electric rate schedules, and fees for services provided by company.
  • Assist in maintaining territorial integrity and make proper determinations regarding the service area in which prospective consumers are located.
  • Maintain a knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (as it applies to appropriate clearances to the line construction design, including all vertical and horizontal clearances and clearances to other utilities), the National Electric Code (as it applies to requirements of construction by members and interface with the utility), company line specifications, the Cooperative Service Rules and Regulations, Georgia Territorial Act requirements and all related Cooperative policies regarding line extension.
  • Maintain a basic knowledge of state and local DOT requirements and regulations.
  • Prepare all applicable and necessary permits.
  • Make mapping error corrections in the field or office as required.
  • Provide engineering field assistance to operations personnel as required or directed.
  • Provide technical assistance during emergency outages as required or directed.
  • Attend job training and safety meetings as required.
  • Be familiar with and follow the best safety practices set forth in the Cooperative's Safety Manual.
Pay: $36.99/hr fixed pay, hourly direct.
