Job Title: Protection & Controls Engineer
Location: 525 S Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202 (Hybrid – 3 days/week in office)
Salary Range: $56 – $70/hour
Duration: 12 months (contract)
Introduction
We are seeking an experienced Protection & Controls Engineer to join the Transmission team in Charlotte, NC. This role focuses on engineering conceptual design, protection system studies, settings development, and troubleshooting for substation protection systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive utility industry experience, familiarity with protective relaying software and compliance standards, and strong expertise in both electromechanical and microprocessor-based protection systems.
Required Skills & Qualifications
15+ years of discipline experience, with SME-level technical knowledge
Proven experience in the utility industry
Familiarity with Aspen Relay Database, Aspen OneLiner, CymTCC, SEL-5010, and SEL-5030 AcSELerator software
Troubleshoot and provide technical support for protection systems
Prepare technical reports, correspondence, calculations, and documentation related to protection and control engineering
Support compliance with NERC standards through settings reviews and updates
Develop positive working relationships across internal teams to ensure timely resolution of requests
Represent the company professionally while supporting business goals and operational reliability
