Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Superintendent (Project Outage Planner)
Location: Reading, PA 19605
Contract length: 12-month Contract-to-Hire
Pay: $40-$50/hr

Assistant Superintendent Qualifications 
Project Outage Planner I 
  • Two-year Technical degree from an accredited engineering or technical school required
  • Zero (0) to two (2) years related experience. Related experience includes project coordination, project development, project management, scheduling resources / equipment, system operator experience, line or substation construction experience
  • In lieu of degree, two (2) to four (4) years related experience will be considered
  • Works safely according to company policies and procedures
  • Capable of effective performance in problem solving, simultaneously managing multiple projects and teamwork
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Preferred skills with the software necessary to perform this job, e.g. EDOA, EMS, and MS Office software such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work effectively in a high stress, high volume work environment
Qualifications for the Project Outage Planner II include all of the above plus
  • Two (2) years related experience, planning system outages for Transmission System Operation or Distribution System Operations preferred
  • In lieu of degree, four (4) to six (6) years related experience will be considered. Related experience includes project coordination, project development, project management, scheduling resources / equipment, system operator experience, line or substation construction experience
  • Effective performance in Regional Distribution Center Operations, Transmission Operations, energy scheduling or equivalent experience in electric utility operations
  • Demonstrated skill for developing, collecting, organizing and analyzing information coming from a variety of sources
  • Demonstrated skill to effectively interpret switching requests, engineering drawings, schematics, equipment instruction manuals, standards and procedures used to create switching requests and recommendations for switching requests
  • Working knowledge of electrical system equipment and the operation of all components of the system is preferred
  • Possess an ability for developing switching orders to remove and restore lines and electrical equipment while providing safety to employees, preventing damage to equipment and maintaining reliable and quality service to candidates
  • Knowledge of Transmission and Distribution operations, maintenance and construction practices, procedures, work methods, materials, equipment and tools
  • Demonstrated skills with the software necessary to perform this job, e.g. EDOA, EMS, and MS Office software such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Assistant Superintendent Description 
  • Demonstrating a strong commitment to all aspects of safety
  • Utilizing client's corporate computer software applications including: Energy Delivery Outage Application (EDOA), Energy Management System (EMS), GIS applications, OPPM and Cascade
  • Developing construction sequence plans that are complex in nature and incorporating information from various sources
  • Leading project staff on the development of construction and outage sequences
  • Scheduling switching to enable work on lines and substations including power plant substations, customer substations, transmission lines and distribution lines
  • Analyzing outage requests for contingencies
  • Maintaining compliance with PJM outage coordination requirements
  • Coordinating transmission and distribution switching schedules with field personnel, control center(s) and project management personnel to meet project deadlines
  • Advising personnel regarding proper switching procedures and ensuring switching documents satisfy Manual of Operations and other requirements
  • Developing and providing reports that communicate switching information
  • Recommending operational improvements related to switching methods
  • Maintaining an awareness of on-going electrical system activity
  • Maintaining a questioning attitude
