Job Summary/Description:
As our Senior Manager, General Accounting & Compliance, you are a crucial leader in the
Finance & Accounting Services Team (FAST) responsible for leading the production of
accurate and timely GAAP compliant records of account. You will manage a team (currently 6
FTE staff) in the following critical functions – General Accounting, Accounts Receivables,
Investments, Audit, Tax, Compliance, and Internal controls. You will play a pivotal role in the
monthly and annual close process and provide management support and guidance for all
accounting matters. You will plan, evaluate, develop, implement and maintain policies and
procedures associated with these areas.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations include the following.
Compliance, Audit and Tax
? Provide oversight and direction for filing all required tax returns and information returns
including sales and use tax, Form 990 and 990T, meals tax, MA Form 3ABC, etc.
? Maintain and ensure ongoing compliance with applicable laws and regulations,
accounting policies and procedures, accounting standards, contracts, and donor
requirements
? Manage external audits; maintain strong working relationships with external auditors
? Prepare schedules, statements and footnotes for audited financial statements
General Ledger
? Play a key role in overseeing monthly accounting close procedures and deliverables,
including preparation and communication of close calendars, close progression and
acting as the point person for communication and related inquiries
? Oversee general accounting function which includes supervision and review of the
accounting entries prepared by staff, account and bank reconciliations and flux analysis
? Maintain the chart of accounts and other accounting segments as well as maintain
security rules across Workday ecosystem
? Oversee and provide leadership for all matters pertaining to the general ledger and
assure that information is reliable, accurate and timely
? Partner with Finance Process Improvement and FP&A teams to coordinate and
communicate interdependencies, monitor achievement of close process milestones and
achieve timely resolution of issues
? Drive process improvement initiatives that fully leverage system capabilities, improve
transparency and control and accelerate close and reporting timelines
Investments and Endowment
? Supervise staff in recording investments and endowment transactions in Fundriver and
in general ledger
? Serve as main point of contact for investment custodian, advisors and fund managers
? Manage document workflow with and between custodian and fund managers; review
new investment documents and coordinate review and signing with legal counsel and
the CFAO office
? Work collaboratively with the Director, FP&A and Decision Support regarding
endowment accounting and unitization schedules
Leadership and Staff Management
? Manage accounting team members by delegating tasks, monitoring task completion
and managing team performance
? Provide ongoing feedback and coaching to staff to improve individual and team
performance.
? Complete and oversee the completion of the annual performance review process for
direct reports
Education and/or Experience
? Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
? Active CPA license required
? Experience in non-profit organizations preferred
? 5-7 plus years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities
specified
? Knowledge of accounting for investments and endowments, including standards for fair
value measurement and disclosure
? Understanding of Massachusetts Uniform Financial Report (UFR)
? Experience with large ERPs such as Microsoft Dynamics SL, Workday, Oracle
? Hands-on management and/or supervisory experience required
? Strong computer skills and proficiency with Excel at an advanced level
