Job Title:                    Department:   Reports to:      Location: Packaging Engineer Sales   Grand Prairie FLSA:                          EEO: Salary Grade: Date Completed: Exempt         GENERAL SUMMARY: The Packaging Engineer is responsible for assisting the sales force by creating products designed to solve customer concerns, whether that be cost, waste reduction, damage reduction, safety concerns, customer experience or others. Packaging Engineer will perform in our organization functions.    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible to drive revenue and profit by designing, creating, developing, testing and proving packaging solutions to meet customer needs and improve our customer’s operations
  • Meet applicable regulatory, structural, design and aesthetic requirements of our customers
  • Conduct testing and analysis to assess product performance, including safety, durability and environmental impact
  • Experienced and skilled in packaging substrates like film, corrugated, foam, wood, glass and others
  • Travel with sales reps to visit various customer locations to find and understand their needs
  • Ability to spot and discern issues facing our customers, even before they voice those concerns
  • Assist sales reps in closing deals by providing desirable packaging designs to resolve customer issues and concerns
  • Provide timely responses, quotes and designs to support Sales Department “speed to market” needs
  • Assists sales reps and purchasing personnel sourcing products related to their work
  • Stays current and communicates to team on sustainability trends, products, vendors, options and programs.
  • Engages large customers early with involvement writing specs and developing products for future launches
  • Utilize CAD and design software to create products
  • Works with cross functional teams within the org and their customers to ensure product meets requirements
  • Provides necessary documentation to set up the designed products in organization systems
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including drawings, calculations, specifications and product data.
  • Provide project updates to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments and progress.
  • Work with other company team members to facilitate best practices in job duties
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
Education:
  • B.S. degree in Package engineering
Experience:
  • Relevant experience within the packaging industry
 
  • Vast understanding of packaging equipment process
 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of packaging materials and substrates, to include corrugated, folding cartons, structured films (horizontal, vertical, stand-up pouches), industrial films (shrink, stretch, bundling) and printing processes.
 
  • Experience in product design utilizing full range of packaging materials
 
  • Experienced using testing lab to ensure quality in shipping, handling and freight processes (i.e., Trucking, FedEx/UPS, Air, Overseas, etc.)
 
  • AutoCAD experience required.
 
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret technical information.
Soft Skills:
  • Computer skills – Microsoft office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project Management; Salesforce
Math/Language/Reasoning Abilities:
  • Financial analysis capabilities.
 
  • Ability to solve problems independently.
 
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

  • N/A
      WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 50% based on project needs.  Meetings often required at customer locations in manufacturing environments and/or corporate settings. Office – Ability to work at a desk for the workday. Will require sitting at a desk for up to 8 hours or more per day Client Facility – Ability to work at a client facility when necessary. Will require long periods of standing and walking in a potentially non-conditioned manufacturing environment. Will require standing, walking, squatting, crawling and the ability to lift weight up to 50 LBS.
