Description:
Responsible for providing technical support in radiological planning. Works independently and with minimal supervision to perform research, investigations, analyses, evaluations, and reviews of radiation protection activities, programs, and procedures. The position supports the station work planning process to complete the radiological aspects of the task planning activities.
Principal Accountabilities:
* Perform work planning, work management activities and radiological work planning for the Radiation Protection Department. This includes dose estimating, creating dose reduction strategies and risk mitigation strategies.
* Analyze and evaluate radiation protection performance data and station exposure data to determine radiation protection program effectiveness. Lead monthly dose budget meetings, plan and review station department’s monthly dose goals.
* Perform reviews and evaluations of department activities, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations, standards, and recommendations. Identify, recommend, and implement corrective actions as needed.
* Provide technical health physics support to address the varied operational and licensing tasks which periodically arise in such areas as radiation exposure monitoring, radiological control, and dose reduction.
Required Education & Experience:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a science related field and a minimum of five years of experience in radiation protection either as a Health Physics Technician, RP Supervisor or RP professional staff position. OR An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Health Physics and a minimum of 7 years of experience in
Radiation protection either as a Health Physics Technician, RP Supervisor or RP professional staff position. OR A high school diploma or GED and a minimum of nine years of experience in radiation protection either as a Health Physics Technician, RP Supervisor or RP professional staff position. A technical training certificate in Health Physics will be considered year for year in exchange for required experience. Additionally, this position requires:
* At least one year of the required experience be in radiation protection work at a nuclear facility dealing with radiological problems similar to those encountered in commercial nuclear power plants.
* The ability to maintain rad worker qualifications.
Required Abilities & Skills:
* Ability to analyze and evaluate data.
* Proficiency in word processing, reporting, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
* Demonstrated ability in planning skills.
* Ability to assure business goals and objectives are met, while maintaining and emphasizing quality and plant safety, within budget and schedule constraints.
* Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment to plan and implement activities, processes, and procedures.
* Ability to interact professionally at all levels.
* Strong verbal, written, and computer skills.
