Job Description


The Field Application Engineer will provide pre- and post-sales mechatronic technical support to sales, distributors, and customers on products. Responsibilities also include developing designs, sizing and specifying components & systems, troubleshooting and demonstrations for customers.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Meets with customers to review product requirements, training and troubleshooting on product design and function.
  • Provides the sales team and customers high level technical support.
  • Understands customer applications and recommends appropriate products. Performs engineering calculations needed to specify and size products, including crossover of competitor’ s products.
  • Assists customers to understand products and perform demonstrations for various field applications.
  • Presents new products through customized demonstrations for drives, linear motors, robots, etc.
  • Develops technical rapport with customer’ s engineering staff, to be considered a trusted resource who can be relied upon to provide sound technical advice and product recommendations.
  • Conducts regular follow up on customer’ s activities. Works with the sales team to help close new orders and get products specified on new programs.
  • Communicate with corporate engineering teams at a high technical level to get answers to questions, and provide information needed to generate proposals.
  • Presents OEM, Distributor, and Sales team on product training.
  • Writes technical proposals to accompany quotes as needed.
  • Sales project management responsibilities.
  • Coordinate within the Engineering team in identifying issues and working on resolution.
  • Presents at product sales webinars (lunch & learns)
  • Inspects, tests, and investigates issues related to product defect reports received from customers. Documents all necessary modifications.
  • Documents all project information for the successful completion of each job. Maintains engineering files containing customer criteria and specifications, drawings, internal machining, and code compliance.
  • Creates and maintains drawings, part numbers, bill of materials, 3D models and 2D manufacturing prints.
  • Attends product review meetings. Provides feedback pertaining to product design.
  • Maintains knowledge on industry trends and makes associated recommendations for product improvements, and new designs.
  • Attends trade shows and conventions to provide technical support to Sales team. Assists with setup of complex demonstration equipment.


Job Qualifications: Experience
  • Bachelor’ s Degree in Engineering (BSE) from an accredited college or university. MSE desirable.
  • At least three years mechatronic engineering experience, including producing 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings with precise tolerances using SolidWorks. Preferably follow up of such drawings to manufacturing and part completion.
  • Previous motion control, automation, robotics, and mechatronics experience a plus.
  • At least two years of SolidWorks software experience or similar solid modeling computer aided engineering tool.

  1. Self-starter with ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and properly prioritize activities.
  1. Familiar with office automation tools: MS Office, ERP, CAD.
  1. Willingness to travel to North American customer sites to support sales activities, system integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Travel as needed to support trade shows and industry events. International travel to Taiwan may be required. Estimated travel up to 50%.
