The Construction Manager (CM) is a key member of the nuclear projects field implementation management team who is dedicated to ensuring the projects impacting the power block are successful, achieving project performance objectives, on-schedule, and on-budget major milestone accomplishment. The CM interacts frequently and directly with nuclear industry contractors at the General Superintendent, Supervisor, General Foreman, and Foreman levels to help those construction leaders succeed. The CM interacts directly with contracted craft, suppliers, work order planners, Health Physics (HP), Radiation Protection (RP), and station personnel to help the Project Manager ensure success completing capital projects, testing and turning the system over to the station on schedule and on budget.
The CM must have a have a high level of initiative and have experience managing implementation teams that support nuclear projects. The CM position may include back (night) shift during the outage implementation timeframe. The work environment is an active heavy industrial nuclear power plant environment and will include both office and field settings. The successful candidate will spend most of the workday interfacing with construction personnel. They will also need to traverse tight areas, climb ladders, and wear appropriate fall protection while working at heights.
JOB SUMMARY:
• Manage a construction team to ensure that project activities are completed for the customer safely, on schedule, within budget and at the appropriate quality level.
• Communicates with other leaders daily for management direction and feedback.
• Participate in presentations to internal customers regarding project status, including complex technical, organizational, and financial issues.
• Conduct considerably complex analysis of problems involving construction activities.
• Develop innovative alternative action strategies enabling the early achievement of milestones.
• Perform risk analyses and provide decision authority for defining and approving corrective actions and establishing priorities.
• Ensure that construction efficiency is optimized by providing efficient construction input and involvement in projects throughout the conceptual design phases, construction, turnover and the completion phases of each project
• Foster a "team concept" when interfacing with Operations, Maintenance and other departments, attend scheduled and unscheduled meetings, provide reports, status of construction activities and identify, address, and resolve complex problems.
JOB DUTIES:
• Ensure that various construction teams have the capability to execute assigned scope in a safe, secure, and cost-effective manner in accordance with the cost, technical, schedule, dose, and quality baselines.
• Balance and prioritize construction resources to support successful execution.
• Represent projects on assigned teams, work with all other functions (i.e. Operations, Design, Design Authority, etc.) to safely execute project scope within all baselines.
• Ensure ongoing communication to maintain the necessary resources from "outside" organizations and address related concerns appropriately.
• Reviews project level performance for effective cost and schedule performance through reporting and project analysis.
• Ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken, and monitor and analyze project safety, cost, schedule, and quality performance.
• Communicate to the applicable project supervisor and/or manager on the baseline status, manpower needs and recommended corrective actions on a regular basis to ensure project success.
• Hold construction team members accountable for performance and compliance to policy and procedures.
• Take actions necessary to meet project quality, scope, budget, and schedule baselines.
Required Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or project management preferred.
• Must have 5+ years nuclear power plant experience.
• Managing the services of large scale, outside contractors, is required
• Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of construction, cost and scheduling, subcontract administration and the ability to develop or evaluate construction strategies and techniques.
• A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of project planning at the tactical level would be ideal, along with knowledge of operations, maintenance, project start-up, construction management and construction subcontracts.
• Have experience of executing work in radiological areas (nuclear) with a history of executing and planning work in radiological environments.
• Ability to manage complex, high risk, large scale projects
• Experience in commercial nuclear power plant system(s) replacements/upgrades.
• Microsoft Office skills
